Healthy Iced Cocoa that Tastes Like Chocolate Milkshake

Iced cocoa has become a real hit in my house. I do not know why I waited so long to share this way of preparing cocoa – but it’s never too late… If you missed it – here’s a chance to try it.

Some time ago (2-3 months) I decided to reduce my daily coffee intake. Coffee has great health benefits and I love to drink it (don’t get me wrong). The only reason was that it made my stomach ache, discomfort and occasionally it made me bloated. These symptoms were especially increased when I drank coffee in the morning

So, I replaced the morning coffee with hot (classic cocoa), but now that the weather has warmed up – this version suits me even more. Just as a small note – I still drink coffee and I do not believe that I will ever give up, I just reduced my intake and drink it mostly in the afternoon.

Below I share the recipe for iced cocoa that literally tastes like chocolate milkshake, but do not forget to look in the notes, for more options and alternatives. You can adapt the recipe literally as you want and as it suits you.

Healthy Iced Cocoa that Tastes Like Chocolate Milkshake

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup cashew milk or less
  • 1 medjool date (or 1 tsp maple syrup)
  • handful of ice cubes

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend until everything is completely mixed and you get a little foam
Fill a glass with ice and pour the iced cocoa.
Alternatively (if you do not want to use a blender) you can use a coffee machine or shaker. For this option, add cocoa and a little warm water (to help dissolve), mix and add the remaining ingredients.

NOTES:

  • The cocoa does not need to be boiled beforehand.
  • I like it strong and that is why I add 2 + ½ teaspoons, if you are not a fan of strong coffee or cocoa, use less.
  •  Cashew milk is my favorite, but any milk will do the trick. If you want it to be richer in taste – add half water with half milk.
  • I do not use sweetener because I drink it as a substitute for coffee and I do not want it to be too sweet, but if you make it as a dessert or snack, then be sure to add 1 date – the taste is identical to chocolate milkshake.
